I understand the whole “embrace the chaos” stream of PBL but I’m convinced you can have rules, procedures, expectations, deadlines, scaffolds, supports, and spaces of quiet and still do authentic PBL.
Happiness is not about reaching your goals. It's about aligning your goals with your values. Progress without purpose is empty. Achievement without impact is fleeting. Success is most rewarding when it serves the people and principles that matter to you.
Don’t mistake silence for apathy. When people are quiet, they’re often busy thinking and learning. Extraverts like to process ideas by talking them through. Introverts prefer to reflect before they speak. I'm not disengaged. I'm listening to your views and formulating mine.

When kids are deprived of play, their mental health suffers. Over the past 50 years, the time kids spend playing outside and inside has plummeted. They're missing opportunities to bond, build self-control, be creative, and feel joy. Free play is a key to happiness and growth.
Curiosity opens doors. Rather than fall into old patterns of knee jerk reactions or past experiences showing up in the present, entering a tense conversation with curiosity opens the mind to listening, to understanding, & to growing. Whatever the context, curiosity is the path.
Quietly listening is a strong form of communication. We don’t always need to be the one giving opinions. Sometimes creating space, giving attention, and validating someone else is more valuable than anything we could ever say.
