Fun Fact: most undocumented immigrants in America are documented immigrants who became visa overstays because they had no available path to citizenship or permanent residency. People would love to "do it the right way," it's just not an option presented by the immigration system.
@msolurin One of my Americans really made it simple for me and I operate from this premise ever since: America’s wants to give the impression that it wants works immigrants but it actually doesn’t.
@msolurin The "I'm fine with the ones who do it the right way" people make me want to SCREAM. There is no right way. It's unbelievable how many even well-meaning people BELIEVE there is.
@msolurin @naledimashishi This is the same in South Africa
@msolurin Actually, thanks to the USA’s juris soli citizenship law, there IS a “right way”, but when people use this path, the Right starts screaming about “anchor babies” and “birth tourism”. They don’t want people to do it the “right way”, they don’t want people to do it at all
@msolurin @LongfellowJean We are a couple who immigrated "the right way". It took my husband 12 years to get a greencard. He had to self-deport once due to a "clerical error" by the employer. By the time we settled down we were in mid 30s and too tired and weary to have kids
@msolurin Another fun fact is that a percentage of undocumented immigrants pay taxes. The IRS is happy to supply tax ID numbers. In general the IRS is only interested in taxable income. Immigration status is not their concern.
@msolurin bUt WhY dIdN’t ThEy CoMe WiTh a LoNg TeRm ViSa 😑🙄🥴
@msolurin Wait until people find out not all detained immigrants have criminal records and some lost their legal status while detained or because they did what they were supposed to and USCIS basically didn’t do their job.
