I’ve never taught consistently on a rotating block schedule before and it’s making it difficult to figure out the timing on some of my lessons.

So true! I’ll never forget a woman screaming at me and calling me a “stupid f-ing b” because I asked if there was anything wrong with the item she was returning.

Smartest thing I heard from a supt recently: As part of reopening planning, arrange a simulated school day (or even 1/2 day) for key stakeholders (supt, bd, union pres, etc) to "attend" school under draft plan. From bus to class to bathroom, walk in their shoes b4 deciding.

A student’s success is due to their ability to rise to any occasion and meet it head on (I have nothing to do with it). A student’s failure will always, somehow, be my fault (they have nothing to do with it). That’s what I’ve learned during this time.

Teacher: Why are you giving us a workshop on mindfulness? Me: This is how the district intends to address mental health issues in education. It’s cheaper to have you be ad hoc therapists than to hire credentialed clinicians who are properly trained to counsel students.

My biggest takeaway from @Teach4Trust yesterday was "I'm going to respect you but I am going to respect myself" I was not respecting myself enough and I realized it was making me profoundly unhappy. Thank you for this, Ricky!

So, is the theory that because of the volume of reading students do that reading the classics will be easier for them? I have many students who want to read them independently, which I’d never discourage, but I wonder how much support they’ll need. #reading #langchat #ELAChat
