This study not only reveals how middle segment of SPIN90 is important for its dimerization, but how a dimeric SPIN90 is critical for activating Arp2/3 complex for nucleating linear filaments. Each SPIN90 makes unique contacts with different Arp2/3 complex subunits.

Besides unidirectional filament nucleation by a single Arp2/3 complex we also resolved bidirectional filaments nucleated by two Arp2/3 complexes activated by a SPIN90 dimer.
