Answer Having feelings for someone else does not, by itself, mean that divorce has become necessary or automatically justified. A person may experience feelings they did not deliberately choose, but they are responsible for what they do with those feelings. If she is married, the first step should be to cut off anything that feeds the attachment: unnecessary communication, private conversations, emotional closeness, or anything else that could lead her further into temptation. Allah says: “Do not go near zina.” (Qur’an 17:32) This teaches us not only to avoid the sin itself, but also to stay away from the paths that may lead to it. If, however, there are serious problems within the marriage and she genuinely believes that remaining in it will cause her to fall into sin or that she can no longer fulfil the rights of the marriage, then she should seek advice from a trustworthy scholar and consider the legitimate options available to her, including khulʿ or divorce where appropriate. She should not make such a major decision simply because she is attracted to another person. Feelings can change, while the consequences of ending a marriage can be lasting. She should cut off the inappropriate attachment, sincerely repent, pray istikhārah, and seek sound Islamic counsel before deciding. May Allah protect her from temptation, purify her heart, and guide her toward whatever is best for her deen and ākhirah. And Allah knows best.
Allah describes the righteous: ﴿كَانُوا قَلِيلًا مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ وَبِٱلْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ﴾ “They used to sleep only a little of the night, and before dawn they would seek Allah’s forgiveness.” They spent part of the night standing before Allah, and as dawn approached, they were still asking Him for forgiveness. Tahajjud is not only about how long you stand. It is about having a private moment with Allah, when the world is quiet, and your heart turns back to Him. Wake up. Pray. Then ask Allah to forgive you.
