@LexiAlex @knowyourbrain20 “Backers”. Anyone familiar with the ongoing genocide knows this is false. But most people in the West *aren’t* familiar, and this is how atrocities committed against Armenians are justified within the US foreign policy framework, which treats them as proxy in *those* conflicts.

@knowyourbrain20 Lexi’s question was not about what Armenia feels about its complex relationships with its neighbours, but about why fervent supporters of Ukraine (who are largely Western) do not also empathize with Armenia. I answered that accordingly with the West’s foreign policy POV.

@LexiAlex Ultimately, Azerbaijan is an oil giant that is a useful fool for US seeking to continually destabilize the Caucasus, which effectively does the 2-in-1 job of messing with Russia/Iran, and ensuring a key region for China’s B&R initiative remains a war zone.

@LexiAlex For the West, the reasoning is that Turkey (Azerbaijan’s backer) is part of NATO, and Iran and Russia (Armenia’s backers) are among NATO’s nemeses. Religion is not always an effective way of determining the nominal allegiance of the West — as the Yugoslav Wars also demonstrate.

This is so funny from the home of the gay capital of the Middle East, whose film industry is led by Nadine Labaki, whose acclaimed first feature film from 2007 does far more to both promote and celebrate homosexuality in Lebanon than this movie ever will

Y’all need to understand that while Greta Gerwig and Kelly Reichardt have both directed films in the indie space budget-wise, Gerwig is not and never has been an indie director narratively or thematically — she has always been poor girl’s mainstream, and very good at that.

“We will see equality when X female director gets to direct Y male superhero film” and the suggestions are all European auteurs for whom directing a superhero film for a Hollywood corporation would be such a soul crushing experience they would rather quit the profession

Tissaia committing suicide has simply never sat right with me, in the book or in the show, to be frank. It is a betrayal of that character on par with the way CS Lewis betrayed Susan Pevensie.

Lest we forget the straight women who end their friendships with us because they can’t view us through a non-sexual lens as well

Lesbians are what now? We're so hypersexualized that you literally can't google anything related to us without finding porn. Most men treat lesbians like walking, talking porn-scenes. Lesbians are constantly sexually harassed not despite being lesbians but because we're lesbians.

Like this the clearest cut no-fault divorce to exist, especially because the undisputed highlight of Gen Q was the decision to centre two Iranian characters, with Sepideh Moafi’s Gigi in particular being the runaway fan favourite of the series.

Literally you could bring Sarah Shahi back for The L Word: New York, change her last name, and just pretend Carmen had always been Iranian, pleasing the white people who wish she was back, the Latinas concerned about appropriation, and the Iranians BEGGING for more representation
