I used to think the term “You’ve outgrown them” was arrogant. Then you realize you’ve put in work that others aren’t willing to and then they do anything to stop your growth. I get it now. Be so careful with people who want you to live within their limitations.
“You need to forgive.”
For which time?
Also, what do I do when they do it again?
And how does that help me heal?
And just curious, do they have any responsibility in this?
No child is going to be able to process the feeling that they don’t belong in their family. No child. Not ever. It is not that child’s responsibility to take the intricacies in how they’re made and blend that into a family that tells them how they’re made needs change.
There are some boundaries that you’re going to have to place that are going to make your body tremble, and your voice shake. That’s not because you’re doing it wrong. It’s because it’s touching on a very vulnerable part of your story. Clear and kind is the way. Don’t back down.
It’s scary to find out as an adult that what happened to you as a child was abusive/traumatic. Kids normalize what they know. If abuse is consistent, so is their survival. There isn't room to name it, much less understand it isn't normal & isn't happening to everyone else too.
Heal and move on.
You don't need to prove to them you matter.
You don't need to show them you survived.
You need to find people who treat you the way they never will.

Sometimes it's hard for a trauma survivor to tell you about their experience, because of how poorly they were treated when it happened, and they tried reaching out for help.
When people hang on to their lies, not only are they missing the opportunity to have genuine connection, but they’re missing the expansion that happens and the ways your life changes for good when you choose to be honest.
A traumatized child is not resilient-they’re hypervigilant. What they did to get by was not from strength, but from being faced with a world that felt like a threat. Suggesting traumatized children are resilient is dismissing the severity of what never should’ve happened to them.
When a person is attempting to heal from trauma or abuse, don’t tell them to be more positive. Help them to be more honest. They need to know the truth about what is living inside of them in order to heal. Forced positivity is delaying them from finding that truth.
If you see a friend on Monday, and they experience trauma that night, on Tuesday the person you knew no longer exists. Trauma forces you into a world you don’t want to know. Trauma is a thief-the ultimate gaslighter. I hope this helps you understand they can’t just get over it.
One of the loneliest parts in healing is knowing you’re not seen. But especially while surrounded by people who think they understand you, but refuse to do the work that would teach them what seeing a person means.
If as a child, you were constantly pushed to explain yourself to an abusive parent, this is your reminder that you deserve to keep important things private.
