One question I hear a lot is what is the difference between “opiate” and “opioid?” (And does it matter?) I made this slide years ago and it’s kind of cheesy but has proven useful as a basic (not comprehensive) primer on these two words that get confused a lot and what they mean.

Loxosceles reclusa (brown recluse 🕷)! Found ~southeastern USA. Venom has sphingomyelinase D (+other digest enzymes); causes evolving and slowly healing skin ulcer (necrotic arachnidism / cutaneous loxoscelism), fatigue, myalgia, +/- autoimmune hemolysis/DIC. Tx mainly supportive
