Everyone romanticizes the single life until they're eating alone at 60 with a passport full of stamps and no one to call family. Money loses its thrill, travel becomes routine, and books don't answer back. Marriage or being in a relationship isn't the answer to everything, but neither is solitude. Every life extracts a price, you don't escape it, you only choose how you'll pay.
A part of me never wants to get married. Just work, save enough money, travel the world, read books, and live a calm, peaceful life.
I've said it before and it bears repeating: You do NOT know the character of a man until he isn't getting what he wants.

Apad has ordered Aeroline to suspend all trips from Nov 6 to Dec 5 for shuttling passengers at city locations such as Corus KLCC instead of Terminal Bersepadu Selatan. TBS is nearly 13 km from KL’s city centre, prompting passengers to voice frustration over the loss of
So many express buses buat hal. They will take you in Singapore, drop you off JB for another bus to pick up. And sometimes in the middle of Johor for another bus to pick up. They speed, break all rules and yet, the trusted Aeroline is the one they want to pick on. lol

i really thought i was set. robust health, a lucrative career, and strong personal relationships. i was extremely, extremely content… but being content doesnt mean fulfilled. when it comes to self improvement - exercise, avoiding seed oils, going analog, touching grass, avoiding lonliness etc etc, these surface level reccomendations only take you so far. i had those things, i had all those things and then some, and still my brain wanted more. it wasnt until i started making things, writing, taking pictures, making videos, pursuing projects, searching for the one piece, that the greater picture started to become more clear. i needed to create. my heart was longing to make an impact. humans need an outlet. we need to things off our chest. we are abominable, gluttonous pigs, consuming consuming consuming. we fill our brains until our belts burst, never releasing the pressure valve. humans arent meant to have access to this much information to do nothing with. we all need to use the ideas we consume for something more, for something bigger than ourselves. few things have been as rewarding as vomiting my thoughts out on the internet and im sure so many people would feel the same if they just fucking tried. dont overcomplicate it. just do something. anything. your soul will do a little dance. once you start, its hard to imagine life ever existed otherwise. for the love of yourself, please practice art.
Practice any art. Not to get money and fame, but to experience becoming. To make your soul grow.
You call Mao a lunatic because you measure him by the comfort of your own peace. But you forget the world he inherited, a land torn apart by foreign invasion, warlord anarchy, mass starvation, and a Western blockade designed to strangle it before it could stand. When Mao took power in 1949, China was not the "great historical nation" you describe in nostalgic abstraction. It was a graveyard of empires. A country with an average life expectancy of thirty-five years, a literacy rate under twenty percent, and a population so exhausted by war and famine that even survival seemed theoretical. There were no universities worth the name, no unified army, no functioning industry, and no sovereignty. The "resurgence" you take for granted began not with markets or reforms, but with survival, the hard, dirty, collective rebuilding of a society left for dead. You say he "drove China into an agrarian grave." China was an agrarian grave. It had been for centuries, impoverished, fragmented, enslaved by foreign powers who took its ports, dictated its tariffs, and flooded its markets with opium. What Mao did was force that agrarian grave to awaken, to industrialize by its own hands rather than under Western masters. Yes, it was brutal. So is surgery after centuries of infection. You talk about "millions dead" as though famine and war were new inventions under socialism. But the century before Mao, from the Taiping Rebellion to the Japanese invasion, killed far more Chinese than any single policy of the People’s Republic. The difference is that before Mao, they died in silence and servitude. After Mao, they died struggling to be free. And in the span of one generation, life expectancy doubled, infant mortality collapsed, and a starving, illiterate people stood upright again. You call it "an unnecessary delay." A delay compared to what? Compared to the postwar reconstruction of Europe, bankrolled by the Marshall Plan, protected by American guns, and supplied with colonial plunder? China rebuilt itself while under embargo, encircled by enemies, and cut off from the world’s markets. And still it endured. By the time Mao died, China had achieved industrial self-sufficiency, universal basic literacy, and sovereignty for the first time in two hundred years. You mock "a colonised Chinese mind possessed with bitter garbage from a bearded European." But you misunderstand what Marxism meant to a colonized world. It wasn’t "European ideology." It was a weapon, a framework to reclaim dignity, to break feudalism, and to end the centuries when Europe dictated the meaning of progress. Marx may have been German, but the revolution that rose from his words was Chinese. You’re right about one thing, this is China’s time. But it didn’t come from luck, or from the benevolence of the West, or from some sudden wisdom that fell from the sky in the 1980s. It came from the foundation laid by a generation that refused to stay on its knees, that built steel from the ruins, dams from famine fields, and a state from chaos. The skyscrapers you see today stand on bones, but those bones are the price of sovereignty, not conquest. You don’t have to like Mao. But if you speak of China’s rise, you speak of his shadow. Because without him, there would be no nation left to rise.
@nxt888 Mao was a communist lunatic intent on driving China into an agrarian grave, until he realised later how stupid that strategy was - probably compelled by others and weakened by old age. And when he changed his approach, China took off. The fact is, his ideological obsession
There’s this metaphor in Chinese business strategy that you see all the time, even though you never really hear it in Western business schools (at least I haven't). It’s called the “catfish effect,” and it supposedly comes from a Norwegian fishing practice. Apparently, when fishermen would transport sardines in tanks, a lot of them would die along the way because they’d stop moving and run out of oxygen. But if you put a single live catfish into the tank, the sardines would stay active, swimming constantly to avoid getting eaten, and more of them would survive the journey. The catfish made the environment slightly hostile, which weirdly made it more survivable. This story kind of floated around in Western motivational books for a while, but it never really stuck in business theory the way things like disruptive innovation or lean operations did. In China though, the idea of the catfish effect, or 鲶鱼效应, became pretty popular in corporate training settings and state-aligned business commentary, and it's pretty obvious that a main reason for that is cultural. There’s just more acceptance of discomfort as a developmental tool, and less hesitation to design pressure into the system from the top down. It’s not “disruption” as a natural market phenomenon, it’s more like managed agitation. Like, let’s introduce a little stress on purpose, because stagnation is the bigger risk here. And yeah, I'm sure some will disagree with this example, but in China, Tesla's arrival is considered a clear-cut case of the catfish effect in policy. At the time, the government was pretty frustrated with its domestic EV scene. The subsidy program, although improved from the decade prior, had still led to all kinds of abuse and fraud, with a bunch of half-baked companies just trying to cash in on government money without building anything truly innovative. It was getting embarrassing. So the government said, okay, fine. Let’s put a catfish in the water. They gave Tesla this rare set of approvals -- full ownership of their China operations, fast-tracked factory deals, land, logistics support -- the works. It was a provocation. Like, hey all of y'all Chinese companies, you guys need to be way faster cuz here comes the catfish. Swim! And sure, it wasn't all because of Tesla, but the pace of innovation has indeed picked up since then, in operations, design, user experience, everything. This is where it really differs from how Western business theory tends to approach competition. In the US, you see a lot more disruptive innovation. In China, competition can be curated, introduced, even welcomed -- not to destroy the domestic players, but to get them moving again. Of course, it doesn’t always work. Sometimes the catfish is too strong, or the sardines were already too weak. And sometimes you get eaten, LOL. But it's an interesting question -- is that tank you're in the best environment for you? Are you swimming because you want to, or because you finally have to?
I'd forgotten how blunt Europeans are in meetings. French attendee: "Hello, you have given an explanation but it is very bad so I have many questions."
For those of you who are wondering, this is from the book The Colour of Inequality, and I assume the RM1 was a typo that was not corrected (MPH as your publisher, IYKYK). That being said, OP doesn't actually know how to interpret this data correctly. Let's take a look:
When analyzing students admission to unis by racial composition, we shouldn’t omit the interethnic wealth disparity. It is found that the highest beneficiary are the Chinese according to their financial and property assets. The numbers are laid down and numbers dont lie..

Ramai orang perlu baca buku ‘What got you here won’t get you there’ by Marshall Goldsmith. Itulah sebabnya, walaupun I always dapat cemerlang dalam appraisals every year in all the organisations yg I kerja, I still bukak bisnes consultancy, cafe, backpackers hostel dan arts & design — semuanya tak berapa related tapi ada ler sikit… Ini supaya kita tidak terperangkap dalam sindrom ‘entitled’ atau ‘bajet bagus jer’. Satu hari nanti, kita mungkin tak lagi jadi ‘flavour of the week/month/year’ atau kerja/business kita jadi obsolete, we always have something to fall back on. Macamana aku nak cakap ngan dia orang ni agar tak menyinggung perasaan… susahlah tarik rambut dalam tepung ni…
🚨Violence will not be tolerated🚨 I'm here to talk about what happened two nights ago (19 July) at KL Gateway. A man threatened to beat me up and grabbed my hand because I looked at him when he was cursing at his kids, who looked nothing more than 5-7 years old. Vid in thread.
That’s concerning because, as Setra sees it, the trade of carbon credits, typically used by companies and individuals to offset their emissions, often fails to consider the connection that Indigenous peoples have to their forests.
