You know what would be a really good idea for a series? The Black press in the 40s and 50s. Think “The Newsroom” or “Mad Men” but the Chicago Defender, New Amsterdam News, or Pittsburgh Courier 😳
@notcapnamerica I had the pleasure of working for photographer Robert “Bobby” Abbott Sengstacke. He was an amazing historian. I would love to learn more about his family Mr. Robert Abbott and John Sengstacke, their work with founding Provident Hospital and the Chicago Defender.
@notcapnamerica Stanley Nelson made a good doc about The Black Press years ago.
@notcapnamerica Not even that far back. Check out a old newspaper from St. Louis called The Evening Whirl… you have to see it! 😎
@notcapnamerica Episode: The 1955 murder of Emmitt Till. From the return of Emmitt’s body to Chicago to the murder trial in Mississippi, the Black press perspective would be transformative. A telling of history through our eyes. cc @shondarhimes @ava loc.gov/collections/ci…
@notcapnamerica My husband wrote for the Call & Post in Columbus for little over a year. Hard work. They had papers in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.
@notcapnamerica I can already envision it! It’s a brilliant pitch
@notcapnamerica Defender had Langston Hughes as a correspondent !!
@notcapnamerica I would totally watch this show. Right now. Like, why isn’t this already a thing?
