"Rachmaninoff was practicing Chopin’s étude in thirds, but at such a snail’s pace that it took me a while to recognize it because so much time elapsed between each finger stroke and the next. Fascinated, I clocked this remarkable exhibition; twenty seconds per bar was his pace…
Yeah, guessing it is in fact a big, red flag to have a guy think like this.

Pleased to see my childhood memoirs WHISPERING PINES listed on the Shillong Writers and Poets website: seppanauthors.org/index.php/koro…
Both The Marriage Portrait and His Last Duchess are based on Browning's short, chilling depiction of domestic violence perhaps inspired by real life. Line breaks changed but… "I gave commands; Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands [in the portrait] As if alive."
The uncanny realisation that your day job which allows you to buy books also prevents you from reading them.
Academics to students: “carefully structure your research” Academics to themselves: “these are my 56 browser windows and 900 tabs, organised according to my neurosis”
The Nazis rather effectively debunked the idea that an appreciation for classical music is inherently civilizing. Nonetheless, it's still jarring to think that Reinhard Heydrich, a primary architect of the Holocaust, was a fine amateur violinist known for his "sweet sound."
Nothing quite as fabulous as petrichor after a spell of sweltering heat...
It's weird to see how a lot of upper middle class India sees wearing high street brands from the West as a status symbol and discounts their tailors while those actually in the West can only dream of custom-made clothing from actual tailors...
I'm looking for novel "retellings" by women of earlier creative works. For example: Jane Smiley's *The Thousand Acres* as a rewriting of *King Lear* or Jean Rhys's *Wide Sargasso Sea* as a rewrite of *Jane Eyre*. What other reimaginings do you know that are worth a read?
Aside from being curious about what 'useless responsibilities' are, I'm even more curious about how human beings can supposedly be as spectacularly thick as this...

Hermit: A memoir of finding freedom in a wild place by Jade Angeles Fitton Very much the kind of book I would like to read but the first few pages completely put me off (for reasons unrelated to the book). It does seem good though if it's a subject you'd be interested in.
Is it just me or is the era of the dense, terse novel over as far as the bigger publishers are concerned? Almost every new release I've read is light, airy, and easy to read regardless of how macabre its subject may be. #books

Detest the terms ‘comfort reading’, ‘escapism’ & ‘guilty pleasure’ — read whatever the hell you like, why ever you like. I’m as likely to escape into Arthur Conan Doyle as László Krasznahorkai or find comfort and pleasure (and lord knows what else) in Borges, Beckett or a Brontë.

@nsaikia @sadelokeshi I think there's a lot of "therapy speak" even therapists use these days that alienated clients and I don't necessarily mean using specific technical terms but pushing ideas on to clients that makes them feel unheard. I had to break up w mine also cos of this.
@nsaikia True. That enthusiasm, though, no one can explain. It would make more sense, imo, to publish fewer books, and back the hell out of them. This need for "more" just doesn't make sense.
@joshshepperd Regards. It works for every recipient. You’re my friend? I have regard for your well being. My enemy? I regard you with scathing contempt. My feelings toward you are neutral? That’s a form of regard too
The suffix "sharp" after the time is an Indian threat of starting the event at the specified time.
@arunava @soniaraowrites Meanwhile absolute rubbish flooding the shelves.
@nsaikia @MumbaiCentral Yes, I laughed at the first few instances of it. Now that it has become a trend, it's driving me mad and I am not even visually impaired or on a slow connection.
@boolfinder I think they are great. Free books to share when not a lot of places take used books except to sell. A family I know lost their son. He loved to read and they built one in his honor. It is one of the things they do to try to keep his memory alive in this world. ❤️
This is excellent news.
🥳 Welcome @creativecommons - you will add tremendous value to the @DPGAlliance !

@RaunaqBali Please do DM his name. Will see to it that never recommend / use his expertise. We as clients would not want to be party to inhuman practices.
I have a love of Indian fabrics and weaves, but my deepest love is for the embroidery technique called kantha. Women painstakingly embroider patterns in a running stitch on a scarf, garment or sari (which is 5.5-6 m). I know about embroidering, what it does to fingers and thumbs.
@nsaikia You're welcome! If you require any further assistance, please reach out to us here. We'd be happy to help you.
