Clipping masks suck with After Effects (using Overlord) One workaround is using the masks as alpha mattes but getting just the mask is very tiresome Gladly, I came across a godsent function from @joshbduncan and made this script that creates shapes based on your selection 🙏

{ motion design } Just did a run through of my animating process in After Effects with my team on a tight timeline job and it’s ASTOUNDING how many add-on tools I rely on to do ordinary everyday stuff as an animator in this app. • FLOW is a no-brainer but it has a secret capability I don’t think enough people know about: drag a handle while holding ALT and you keep the angle locked and can adjust the length. No easy way to do this natively. • KEYSTONE is a keyframing multi-tool but I am routinely using it’s CONSTANT SPEED button. Grab two keys and hit it to lock the tangent handles together and guarantee that the speed between them is linear. • EASE COPY helps you grab multiple keys and apply the same ease to another set of keys. • SORT-IT! Helps you make sense of cluttered timelines by letting you Group Layers together like C4D’s Layer Panel. It’s essential and I don’t know how anyone works without it. • UNPRECOMPOSE let’s you easily and quickly take everything in a Precomp and drop it back into its parent Comp. • LABELS and PRISM: layer colors have always been powerful but now coloring keyframes is a power tool in AE. These both help facilitators that. • This is native but totally hidden: holding SHIFT+ALT while clicking one keyframe and then a second one to find out how many frames are between the two. There’s so many more but these are my daily drivers. What’s your must-have’s for animating in AE?

By constraining a path between two other animated paths, you can easily achieve intricate animations in #AfterEffects. Take a look at how I implemented this in my latest rig. #MotionGraphics
