Reminded of how the Brits took the “civilizing mission” for their empire seriously, and the Spanish empire for sure thought they were saving so many savage souls. You do not get to turn every negative reaction to your presence into racism simply because you are Black. If your behavior, smell, proximity, or lack of consideration makes people uncomfortable, they are allowed to react. Chinese people do not owe you the American kneeling ritual of immediate guilt, apology, and submission every time you invoke the word “racism.” China owes Africa no ritual of guilt or submission, and certainly owes no emotional obedience to someone still mentally governed by Western racial politics. Your Black identity does not give you jurisdiction over other people’s senses. Respect is not something you obtain by weaponizing victimhood until everyone around you learns to suppress their own reactions.
