Sometimes the thing using your microphone has a name nobody knows. When it is a part of macOS, Discrity adds a note on what it is, and checks that Apple really signed it.
Defaults are the real design. Most people never open the settings. So the app they get is the one we chose for them.
We are a small team inside Scaled Academy, in Frankfurt. Small on purpose: the people who decide what an app does are the people who build it.
Every screen we design gets the same question: what is the one thing a person came here to do? If there are two answers, it is probably two screens.
Discrity lives in the menu bar and stays out of the way. It speaks up when a camera or microphone turns on. The rest of the time you do not see it.

Our website has no cookies and no third-party scripts. So it has no cookie banner either. That was the easy way to get rid of it.
Why we built Discrity: the dots in the menu bar say that something is on. We wanted to know what, since when, and what happened while we were not looking.
Plain language is a feature. "Zoom turned on the camera" beats "Video capture device session initiated" every time.
Our third rule is called Useful: an app has to save real time on a real task. If it only looks impressive, we have not finished it.
