Independent monitoring for Starlink fleets and remote sites. See latency, drops and obstructions over time across every terminal. Maritime, mining, remote ops.orbimon.com WorldwideJoined May 2025
Every Orbimon monitor now has an events and outages timeline covering the Edge device, the dish and Starlink. When a site drops, you can see which layer went first.
Obstruction is behind most short, repeating Starlink drops. Orbimon now has a 3D obstruction view on every monitor, so you see the sky blockage in context with your dish, not just as a percentage.
New in Orbimon: alerts by email and webhook. Set up profiles, tune them per monitor, and get an optional daily digest instead of a ping for every blip. Know a Starlink site is down before your users tell you.
Shipped this week at Orbimon: email and webhook alerts, a new events and outages timeline, speed tests and data usage, a 3D obstruction view, and one-click OTA updates for Orbimon Edge. Full changelog: orbimon.com/changelog
The Starlink app shows how your dish is doing right now. Most problems don't happen right now.
If users complain about 'random' drops, record latency and outages over a full week. Time-of-day and weather patterns show up fast.
Remote Starlink sites fail in slow motion.
A tree grows into the sky mask. Firmware sits untested on a backup dish. Evening congestion creeps up for weeks before anyone opens a ticket.
If you only look when users complain, you're always late. A week of latency and outage history usually shows the pattern on day two.
If you run Starlink as a backup link, the risky part isn't the failover. It's the months in between.
Test it on a schedule, check the obstruction map after storms or new construction, and keep a record. Backups fail quietly.
@h_sofi2@cb_doge@Starlink Storms are the honest test. Heavy rain mostly adds latency spikes and brief dropouts rather than a full outage, and it recovers fast. Logging latency through a storm vs a clear day is the easiest way to see how much weather really costs your site.
@WillarShoko Interesting move. Traffic priority across mixed links is only as good as what you can see: once Starlink is one path among several, knowing its latency and drop history per site matters just as much as the routing rules themselves.
@voytechs Nice write-up. One thing worth adding for backup links: test the failover regularly, not just once. A backup dish that sits idle can quietly develop obstruction or firmware issues, and you only find out the day the primary goes down.
@primemans Classic. A useful way to confirm it: obstruction drops are short (seconds) and repeat in a pattern as satellites pass the same patch of sky. Long drops at random times usually point elsewhere: power, cabling, weather or a network-side outage.
@primemans Good tip. One catch: the debug page is a snapshot of right now. If drops happen at 3am or only in bad weather, screenshot it a few times a day or log it over a week. The pattern over time tells you far more than any single reading.
Starlink tip: not every drop is an outage.
Short drops (a few seconds) that repeat → usually obstruction.
Longer drops at random times → power, cabling or the network side.
Slow but connected → congestion or weather.
The pattern tells you where to look.

On Monday I captured 225,000 photos of the moon to create this 500 gigabyte composite showing more detail and color depth than usually possible through a telescope. Here's a thread about how it was captured, but make sure to load in 4k and zoom in first!
🔍 Why Orbimon cares: With these metrics, we can refine orbital drift forecasts and optimize ground-station passes for faster data uplinks.
