@grrenshaw @ThisIsNashville @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms Of course it does. Even if it didn’t why should you care. They aren’t your children. I am responsible for the type of citizen my child becomes, not a public school. If you think public school is the only way to churn out good workers then you support socialism and communism.
@parentschoicetn @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms "If you think public school is the only way to churn out good workers then you support socialism and communism." 1-Public school=not the ONLY way but the only public-tax-funded way 2-This=non sequitur. Add "using logic" to my concerns abt paying parents to homeschool 1/
@grrenshaw @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms Why are you so focused on homeschool? Do you even know what kind of fantastic programs exist today? Probably not. Open your mind and stop thinking so selfishly.
@parentschoicetn @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms Selfish = Demanding that the tax dollars I + thousands of other Nashvillians pay to support public schools be handed to individual parents to homeschool or to religious schools that provide a poor-quality education. YOU are asking for a govt handout. THAT sounds selfish to me
@grrenshaw @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms I’d rather see 8,000 of my tax $ go to a child in a private school than go toward a new stadium. Maybe at the very least that stadium will provide jobs for the 20% who didn’t graduate.
@parentschoicetn @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms So we agree on something! I voted against the original stadium-there was a referendum!-& am furious that city leaders made such a bad deal & now tell us the only solution is...throw MORE city AND state taxpayer money at the Titans, a for-profit business. 2 wrongs don't=a right
@grrenshaw @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms Pick your battles. Why not wait and see how the school board members adjust a budget, why not wait and see how much participation happens, this is not a bad thing. Tax $ is not the only funding they receive. The families that can participate would benefit in many ways.
@parentschoicetn @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms If this were so good ALL TN counties would have voted it in for themselves. They didn't. B/c they KNEW it would harm local schools. Schools & hospitals anchor rural communities. TN's failure to expand Medicaid decimated local hosp. They couldn't afford to undermine their schools.
@grrenshaw @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms If this program is successful, it is my understanding it will be rolled out in the entire state. Participation is not mandatory.
@parentschoicetn @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms MY participation is mandatory MY taxes will be handed out to individuals under this program-abuse=inevitable Neither does this negate the underhanded way this system was forced on Memphis & Nashville Casada blocked the exit & wouldn't let my rep & others leave to force this vote
@grrenshaw @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms Davidson and Shelby were chosen because of demographic and size. I’m sure like many things; politicians settled for something rather than nothing.
@parentschoicetn @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms Neither state senators NOR state reps for Davidson & Shelby Counties supported voucher Bill almost didn't pass for ANY districts The ONLY reason it passed=Knoxville was excluded so that rep threw Nashville & Memphis under the bus for Bill Lee "Demographics"=black ppl & Democrats
@parentschoicetn @MetroSchools @TEA_teachers @EdChoiceTN @MariahTimms You should change your name to ParentsChoiceNashville & ParentsChoiceMemphis, since no Tennessee county voted for vouchers for its schools They were imposed on NashV & Memphis by a vindictive Genl Assembly that hates our cities b/c they think we=too many black people+Democrats.
