Pastors: Don’t go woke and don’t go weird. Read and study the Bible from cover to cover. Preach and teach it faithfully and in context. Share the accurate gospel of Jesus' saving work. Do the hard and work of making disciples. Care for the poor & the prisoner. Avoid celebrity.

I was viewing Gabe Patillo’s memorial today. Gabe grew up in our church. He eventually moved on, married, and started a family. One day, he scheduled an appointment with me to tell me how much he loved and appreciated me as his pastor. Gabe was a fine man in every possible way.

While freedom may be attained in a moment, it must be maintained every day. Over time, you become stronger and stronger as your mind is renewed and your mindset is reinforced. Freedom doesn’t mean sin disappears, it means that sin is defeated and dominated daily.

Positive change does not come to a negative heart. God is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him in faith believing. It is okay to start out with a complaint, but it must become a confession of trust in God’s provision, protection, power, and peace.

Remember: Jesus was the Son of God at His birth, in His life, at His death, and both now and forever. His birth was supernatural, His life was sinless, and His death and resurrection were sure and complete. His reign is established eternally. Praise Jesus, the Son of God!

Don’t try to be the hero in other people’s story. Just do heroic things, and then if you wind up being the hero it will be nothing but humbling and surprising. Always make it about them, not you.

If Jesus called you to shepherd His people and that led you to Bible college or seminary to prepare, never forget what your calling is. If you eventually become a denominational leader, professor, or executive, you are always a shepherd. NEVER FORGET!

I am often asked me how loving, caring, & compassionate shepherds turn into unloving, cold, & callous denominational leaders. It is because they were anointed to be pastors not politicians. When you forsake your assignment, you forfeit your anointing. You must stay true to you.
