Barnard's Star in motion damianpeach.com/deepsky23/barn… The 4th nearest star to our solar system at just under 6 light years, this small red dwarf star has the highest apparent motion of any star in the sky at around 10 arc secs per year. 50cm & 43cm CDKs. 2017 and 2024. RGB images.
@peachastro @AustralisPiper This is due mostly to precession and nutation, not proper motion. But Polaris from 1981 to 2024 moved more than 14 arc minutes, which navigationally is 14 nautical miles on the surface of the globe. For anyone who imagines that "Polaris doesn't move."
@peachastro @ProfBrianCox Is this where Cummings went to check his eyesight?
@peachastro @ProfBrianCox Where's it going in such a rush? Jeez star, slow down, smell the nebula!
@peachastro @ProfBrianCox That’s why it needed a roundabout 😊
@peachastro @ProfBrianCox Star indeed. It’s clearly a galactic crossing and a freighter is about to pass by.
@peachastro How is Alpha centauri being closer but not showing this much moment?
@peachastro @ProfBrianCox It seems like it’s orbiting something…..
