@HighburyEcho @fcspokesman That's very correct. Sandra was a member of Black panthers, she advised Fela to use his fame and songs to help liberate black people. Fela went from apolitical songs like Ololufe, omuti etc. to revolutionary songs like why black man dey suffer. The rest is history like they say.

@fcspokesman Lastly, Fela himself coined the word Afrobeat and name the genre Afrobeat to separate from western jass & highlife this was on record. He was the first & only one doing 10 - 30 mins long music pc then. You claimed to respect Fela but try to tarnish his legacy. Keep your respect.

@fcspokesman I've seen some of yr posts, but I always ignore bcos of yr huge ignorance. Howeva, I'll make comment on this to educate others that might think you're making a point. Firstly, Fela was playing & doing session in Los Angeles as far back late 1960s with his 1st band Koola Lobitos

@fcspokesman About originator of Afrobeat, Fela was the originator plain and simple. He did this in collaboration with Tony Allen. He changed song architecture to long form pcs, africanized funk while Tony added rhythymic percussions with no fixed loop. This was how Afrobeat was created.

@fcspokesman Fela by far was the greatest artist in Nigeria in late 60s. In Africa, you can only mention names like E.T Mensah, Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba as African artists known outside of shores of Africa in late 1960s. Fela was huge before becoming political and revolutionary.

@SikiruAdepoju Respect to Baba Victor Olaiya as well under who both Fela and Tony Allen were band members & influential in d foundation of what would become Afrobeat. He's another great pioneer that's less talked about these days. Respect your current legends and all these past legends as well.

@SikiruAdepoju I usually don't like commenting on post on X. But please don't distort history. Julius Orlando music was Highlife and Afro soul and Fela did start as Highlife and Afro soul musician with songs like Ako, Eko ile, Omuti tide under his first band Koola Lobitos.

@SikiruAdepoju Give respect where it's due. And don't tarnish others' legacy for self-serving your fave. Tony Allen was a legend that wasn't talked about enough in Nigeria music industry. Arguably the best drummer ever.

@SikiruAdepoju But he created Afrobeat which is heavy in percussions & fast beat wit assistance of Tony Allen. If U actually want to mention another name responsible for birth of Afrobeat, it's Tony Allen. He has as much claim to Afrobeat as Fela. Respect to OJ but baba did not create Afrobeat.

@EberhardNotty @renoomokri I try to ignore your ill-informed comments but I couldn't help it. Not until the British passed slavery abolition act in 1833, most of slaves taken to Brazil and other places in new world were from west Africa. Also, the Male revolt of 1835 in Brazil were led by Nigerian slaves
