@DrEilidhMaria Think positively. Doctors should develop skills and knowledge beyond everyday routine consultations. You should be the clinical lead overseeing health promotion projects besides the head clinician of the multi-disciplinary clinics that employ PAs.

@cruncherwax Australian health system is a mix of private and public health care. In addition to Medicare I paid A$215 per month to a private health when I go to a private hospital for colonoscopy I need to pay $250 in excess. Of course most major operations are cover except cosmetic ones

@cruncherwax You need a proper trade Union. Like the Australian salary Medical Federation ASMOF representing hospital doctors Some years ago FACEMs received a 25% pay rise in exchange for 15 day/yr secondment to a rural hospital in NSW . Recent Locum rate for emergency specialist $3000/ day

@cruncherwax I guess. Apprentice is one who follows his master around, carrying his tool box, clerking for him/her while picking up knowledge and experience. My medical student on family medicine term, is quite involved in patient care, like doing a Depression scores, And they love it.

@trentconsultant Nothing new, we Aussies pay out of our own pocket too. Even the ‘working with women and child ‘ clearance certificate every 3 years. However, all these are claimable expenses on tax returns.

@sal_mahmoudd In Australia, general practice is a specialty and GP is considered specialist by medical registration board. Chronic disease management and mental health issues of adults and children are predominantly the job of a GP in the urban setting. It’s a hard job.
