Passed my Amateur Radio Extra Class exam this morning! Super excited!

After having my Amateur Radio license for over 30 years, and not taking a licensing exam for over 20 years, I’m finally sitting for my Extra Class exam this morning. It’s been a whirlwind of studying and repetitive sample exams, the past few months, but I think I’m ready. 😬🤞

Got both FT4/FT8 digital modes figured out today! Made a bunch of contacts on several bands including several bands I don’t have much luck with on SSB. Even got a few POTA stations. Kind of fun! #hamradio

Had a fun weekend working both POTA and some CQWW SSB contest on HF #hamradio but wow was it busy on the bands. It still cracks me up that you get these stations that barely hear you and it takes 4-5 times to get the exchange and then you get a 59 signal report back. 😆 🤷‍♂️

Had my first experience with RF getting into my shack with this end fed long wire knocking out my Astron PS and HF rig, but only on HF 20M and only >50W. Added a choke on the coax and a couple of ferrite cores on the AC input and DC output and fixed it right up! #hamradio

Made my first Ham Radio DMR contact today. Bit of a learning curve but was happy to successfully talk to someone! Been enjoying learning about all the digital modes. Haven’t done anything digital since Packet (AX.25) 25+ years ago. 😬 I’m getting old. #hamradio #dmr
