This isn't exactly news, but this review of more than 25 studies over the last few years is important. We remember more from what we read on printed paper than we do from reading on a screen. x 6 to x 8 times more. Reading real books is VERY important. theguardian.com/books/2023/dec…

It appear that when we read a sentence, the cognitive load is greatest at the end of the sentence where we experience a 'wrap up' effect as we draw the themes together. The more clauses, the greater the demand (Lobina et al. 2017).
