I had assumed that Maryland was too blue for Hogan to have a chance, a la recent elections in places like Wisconsin & Hawaii where popular GOP governors crashed and burned when trying for Senate seats. But these leads for Hogan are really big.

@senderowiczj I didn't even remember the Hawaii race. Query whether 2012 still qualifies as "recent" in political terms!
Ahem, I was in my *second* year as a William F. Buckley Fellow at @NRO, I was plenty old, but also old enough to know a lot has changed! (One might even argue there is a more plausible lane for Rs in fairly blue states than there used to be, because Trump has activated some rural and disaffected voters into Rs and they will still vote for an R at the top of the ticket who can just stay silent on Trump and still get moderate suburban voters. I might be overthinking this.)
