I'm glad people are seeing AI itself as our "cognitive commons". That's what it really is -- a world-mind that collects and integrates all human knowledge. This paper shows one difficulty in maintaining a centralized world-mind.

This paper gives a fancy name to a problem you can already feel in your bones "The Tragedy of the Cognitive Commons." Checking AI output requires deep expertise. Deep expertise comes from doing grunt work for years. And grunt work is the first thing AI eats So we're building

I keep thinking this morning about something Kamala Harris said throughout her historic campaign: We have so much more in common than what separates us. Obviously I think our country made the wrong choice here and put us on a worse path across a range of issues. But one of the things I worry about most is how a Trump presidency will aim to divide us. If we want to fulfill our potential as a nation, we will need to work harder than ever to seek out the things we have in common, and to fight against the idea that the enemy in America is within. People, communities, and organizations will need to do more than we ever have before to stand up for our shared values. To stand firm in the idea that diversity is part of what makes our country so special. That inclusion is how we unlock our collective potential. That building a level playing field is how we uncover the incredible talent that exists all around us. These concepts don't just *coexist* with values like merit and performance and acceleration -- they create the foundation for those values to thrive. I expect we'll see more narratives in the coming months and years that seek to turn us against each other, to demonize members of our own communities, and to convince us that success is zero sum. That it's "us" or "them." We can choose to reject these messages and come together around the many things we have in common. I'll be working hard to make this possible in my work, and I hope to see people on every part of the political spectrum do the same.

BREAKING: In a stunning clip, Kamala Harris’ campaign has put together a montage of all the Republicans who have fact checked Donald Trump on his lies surrounding FEMA funding. Retweet to make sure all Americans see Republicans holding Trump accountable.

In my mid-forties, I’ve now been paying attention long enough to be able to feel the compounding effect of 2% national GDP growth. All aspects of material culture are better than when I was a kid: - Everyone has an Internet-connected computer / camera in their pocket - Medicine has improved to the point that people survive heart-attacks, cancer, etc. that used to kill them - More interesting, higher quality food (including in smaller cities & towns) - Good coffee everywhere - More reliable, more powerful cars that pollute less - Air travel safer & available even to the working class (much nicer airports, too) - Clothing cheaper & more comfortable - Incredible variety of media available on demand, wherever you are & so on Really drives home how even relatively slow growth massively compounds over decades & makes me incredibly optimistic about the future. Capitalism is amazing.

As regulators contemplate increased technology rules/policies, please reflect on the utter disaster known as GDRP. We all click multiple times a day on useless “accept cookies” links with zero consideration for why (& always complying). It’s a poster child for bureaucratic waste.

I support Kamala Harris because we need a President that can drive stable policy that is pro science, business, education, choice, global trade, and immigration. The alternative path has already shown to be highly volatile on each of these dimensions. There are still *many* issues in the Democratic Party that need to be fixed, and I hope she will be a centrist leader that brings the party into the future.

My wife and I had multiple, soul-crushing miscarriages, and one still born daughter before we were able to have children. Millions of parents are desperate to have kids but simply can't. Treating people without children like they are lesser human beings is unbelievably cruel.

Political leaders should have children. Certainly they should at least be married. If you aren’t running or can’t run a household of your own, how can you relate to a constituency of families, or govern wisely with respect to future generations? Skin in the game matters

Ok, let's finally address these tariffs myths.🧵 1) "Trump's earlier tariffs didn't bring mass inflation, so these won't either" Those were targeted tariffs on a small number of goods & nations - and those prices soared. Link below cites several studies. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_tar…
