Three of my friends since childhood are conservative Republicans that I have stayed in touch with. The nonsense that they believe about what is happening in Ukraine is profound and disturbing. Key propaganda lines from the Kremlin have been effectively hidden or assimilated into many conservative sources in the US. These are modified to fit into existing biases and effectively simply convince the listener or reader of something he thinks he already believes. I keep trying to give them facts, but they ignore sources or data. It is the most politically disturbing thing I can remember.
@randymot4 I've seen the same thing. A friend of mine doesn't even believe there is a war in Ukraine. I have another friend who is there as a missionary and shares pictures from near the front lines. Modern day Reps are no different than environmentalists in their capacity to ignore truth.
@randymot4 It’s been like this in Ukraine since 2004 or earlier
@randymot4 @cherylisok We didn’t evolve to perceive reality - we evolved to survive. Historically, this meant maintaining a connection with our respective tribes. Some conservatives are embracing Putin/Russia bc Trump does - which goes to show how tribalism trumps truth. Dems can do the same tho.
@randymot4 Disinfo is corrupting society: it must be managed in a democratic way, but must not be allowed to interfere in elections or points of political arguments. How do we fix this????
@randymot4 You wish it was Kreml propaganda...but even the US government surveyed Crimea in 2013 and we can actually read that 70% there chose the Russian free trade zone over the EU...and only 14% said that they were Ukrainian. pdf.usaid.gov/pdf_docs/pnaec…
@randymot4 We also know from Western sources that 30% of the lands of Ukraine are owned by Cargill, Monsanto, and Dupont (Blackrock). We also happen to know that we are financing neo-nazi mercenaries ther too. jpost.com/diaspora/us-li…
