On dit souvent que les femmes sont le cheval de Troie des invasions. C’est, dans une certaine mesure, vrai. Quand un peuple est envahi, la lignée qui s’éteint prioritairement est souvent celle des hommes, alors que celle des femmes continue. Petit exemple historique : depuis le 16ᵉ siècle, en Antioquia, les pères sont majoritairement européens, les mères sont majoritairement amérindiennes. C’est ce que montre l’étude de Carvajal‑Carmona et al., publiée dans The American Journal of Human Genetics (2000). Cette étude a analysé le chromosome Y (venant de l’homme) et l’ADN mitochondrial (venant de la femme) chez 80 personnes de Medellín, retenues parce que leurs arrière‑grands‑parents étaient d’Antioquia. Le résultat ? Environ 94% des chromosomes Y sont européens, 5% sont africains, 1% sont amérindiens. Les hommes locaux ont presque disparu de la lignée paternelle. Le plus intéressant dans cette étude, c’est l’ADN féminin. Environ 90% de l’ADN mitochondrial est amérindien, et ces lignées correspondent à celles des Amérindiens de la région. En gros, les hommes locaux sont évincés de la reproduction et les femmes, elles, continuent. Pour comprendre pourquoi les femmes traversent mieux les crises et les bouleversements et pourquoi c’est moins le cas pour les hommes, il faut lire une autre étude : Campbell, dans Behavioral and Brain Sciences (1999). Cette étude montre que, face aux dangers, les femmes privilégient plus souvent la sécurité que la prise de risque. C’est normal et compréhensible pour plusieurs raisons (enfants, famille...). le calcul se pose différemment. Si on sort du champ de ces études, on comprend que rester en vie passe avant le reste pour beaucoup de personnes, et les crises filtrent aussi les hommes : ceux qui transmettront et ceux qui ne transmettront pas. C’est une double mécanique : Les hommes locaux disparaissent (guerre, etc.) et les femmes, dans ce contexte, s’unissent plus souvent aux nouveaux venus, perçus comme plus sécurisants car plus dominants et forts. L’honneur, l’ethnie, la religion, la nation sont des loyautés de nom qui emportent trop souvent, et peut être trop futilement, les hommes. On peut mourir pour ces idéaux, oui, mais ce faisant on ne transmet rien. Les femmes, ne font pas ça : elles s'adaptent. Elles s’ajustent à l’ère du temps, aux rapports de force, aux vainqueurs. Elles font souche avec eux aussi sûrement qu’elles épousent l’air du temps. C’est un choix de sécurité, conscient ou non. Et sur des périodes de temps suffisamment longues, ce choix se lit dans l’ADN. Ainsi, l’invasion a réussi en partie parce que la moitié du peuple vaincu a continué, avec lui. Voilà le "cheval de Troie", si on peut l’appeler ainsi.
