I hate the fact that allistic people learned the word 'nonverbal' and consistently misuse it and misunderstand its meaning. Being nonverbal isn't a choice and isn't something you can just just turn on and off

everyone “understands” that you’re autistic… until you need some understanding. everyone can acknowledge, “oh, yes, that person is autistic”… until you behave in a slightly autistic way and they ask, “why are you being like that?”
I support teachers 100% & fully believe that violence in schools is an extraordinary problem. But please, we need to be careful. Based on what I'm reading, there is a terrifyingly short leap being made between "schools are too violent" and "Inclusive education has gone too far."

@katynotie im autistic & worked at eibi for two weeks before quitting - it was like dog training for kids & extremely uncomfortable. they also told me that i needed to "work on my flat affect & tone" as if thats not a widely known autistic trait.

EIBI will scream it is not ABA, Applied Behavioural Analysis. ABA is a "therapy" that has not only been proven to be ineffective long term, but is actually an extremely cruel and grueling process for Autistic children.

@oliviabstevens i mostly read fiction & fantasy but my fav two non-fictions from this year were: counting the cost by jill duggar (talks about her life growing up on tv), & the in-between by hadley vlahos (stories from a hospice nurse)!
