Egypt opens up for crew change with effect from 1st July. For on-signers: Europeans can be granted visas on arrival. Asians/Turkish can be granted a visa on arrival, but conditional on whether they are holding valid seaman books. @imfederation @PrasharSdp

Most of the crews on ships from these countries. Yet English is the language at sea. As fatigue creeps in, speaking a foreign tongue becomes harder, which can lead to misunderstandings or even accidents. It's time to allow a #CrewChange so seafarers can return home and rest.

1982 remembered: 250,000 workers go on strike in 80 Bombay Mills. Mill Owners after 95 Years went into recession. Industry shifts to Gujarat. All 250,000 Families lost. When you strike , Someone else gains too. Retaining Jobs is the need today as we fight #Covid_19

Industrial action / Strike / Tools down is not going to solve the crew change crisis. The problem here is not the shipping companies, most of whom have shown intent & enterprise to get things moving but governments who keep sabotaging their plans. @PrasharSdp @imfederation

APPEAL to Onboard Seafarers: Pls support onleave Seafarers to join Ship. Indian Recruitment Shipping Companies have chartered flights. Crew Change is happening. Action by on-board Seafarers will either make us darling of Ship Owners or will destroy jobs. Jobs are here to stay.

Chief Officer Rajat on whatsapp to me Biggest example is Sri Lanka.. yesterday until afternoon was closed due to shortage of quarantine staff and by evening they opened again for Seafarers and Crew Change.
