RPG magic idea: Casting a magic requires a [game specific] type of resource, but also is fundamentally bad for the world Each spell cast makes the World Tree wither or the Sun Dim 1/10000000th of an amount Would the players ever care?
@riseupcomus Elden Ring. There's a species of artificial person (Albinaurics) whose endless suffering at the hands of every being in power is a major theme There's also a spot to use a spell to kill tons of them at once, netting zillions of runes over and over Guess what players do
@riseupcomus Do the powerful care if it benefits them? History will tell us no.
@riseupcomus That’s kind of like the Radiance and the Nucleus of the Spheres from the D&D gazetteer the Principalities of Glantri (which was a true banger of a setting), it enhances spell casting but in the process, drains magic from the world.
@riseupcomus You could also have a super low probability roll to see if this is the spell that finally makes the World Tree fully die. I could see that tiny chance of catastrophe being fun. That would end up far more likely to end in catastrophe, but I think that could be fun.
