Meanwhile codex couldn't find anything, refused to explain itself and flagged my chat for cybersecurity risk lol
Stock English Laya, no game-specific fine-tuning. The 50 random runs used five selection streams on the same ten development floors, not held-out maps. Full experiment and limitations:

I got Laya, a tiny AI model, to beat my game. A bot picking goals at random did too.
Laya: 10/10 floors.
Random: 50/50 runs on the same 10 floors.
Both used the same Rust movement and survival code.
The demo looked like AI playing. The code did the hard part.
What is the greatest fear of copyleft advocates? That someone else will take their volunteer efforts and profit from them.
The irony is that there's little incentive to do so.
Software is commoditized now. Scarce programmer hours are no longer the competitive moat they once were.
Unless, of course, you believe private corporations can outcompete the entire open source community on features and quality, so convincingly that people will still be willing to pay for proprietary software and digital services.
The real competitive advantage is no longer the code itself. It's the community and ecosystem around it.
Opening your code invites scrutiny, attracts contributors, and accelerates both.
Open source doesn't give away your moat. It helps you build one faster.
Laya's own model card agrees. Zero-shot on its own benchmark, the base model scores 0.362. Always picking the most common answer scores 0.461. Before you put one of these in a loop, give a random picker the same tools. If random wins too, your harness is the smart part.
Laya playing Snake got 4.3M views. I built a Rust game to test the hype. Laya won 0 of 10 floors. When it finally won all 10, so did a bot rolling random dice.
great post from @exedev team - the same thing that has always been true of software engineering is still true:
Do fewer things in parallel, do them very well, optimize for getting incremental value out to users, FOCUS
It's been 30 years since the XP and Lean folks said "limit work in progress (50+ if you count the eli goldratt thing) - its still true
