The Boys is a weird show that is forever locked in the paradox of 1) Homelander is the best character, so he can never die, and 2) all of the other character's want to kill Homelander, so they can never succeed
@sagehyden It’s a classic model of storytelling.
@sagehyden Yup I gave up after half the season 2. It gets repetetive as fuck
@sagehyden And somehow the show is consistently solid? Like I keep expecting to hate a season because of this.
@sagehyden King Homelander is like defeating Sauron. It happens at the end of the story
@sagehyden It's not just that "homelander is the best character, so he can never die". If he die, the show ends, which would be a satisfying conclusion, but they still want to make more seasons for money reasons.
@sagehyden Except the ending of the comic book has been revealed and Homelander can and does die. Will the show end how the comic book did probably not
@sagehyden It also has to keep coming up with more and more tenuous reasons why Homelander doesn’t just murder all the main characters. And usually the only answer they can come up with is blackmail
@sagehyden This is why I liked the Buffy formula: one Big Bad per season.
@sagehyden Showrunner Kripke has said he will eventually die, but he also said that it was because The Boys is ultimately an optimistic show, so he might be trolling.
@sagehyden "Gee, it's sort of like Moonlighting, isn't it?" If Homelander dies, the show's over. Which will be good if they do it that way on purpose.
