Many ASD children seem to learn reading by sight. Yet we force them to do synthetic phonics which is confusing for some children. They then fail the phonics screening - even though they can read!!!! Why can’t exceptions be made for children like this?? #phonics

@Trundling17 This is interesting. I tutor MSL and find this to be true for reading, but for most it seems to really fall down when it comes to spelling. They memorise letters but produce them in an order that makes no sense. Also decoding skills are good for new words and place names.
