Things I wish I learned how to do in nursing school: -advocate for myself and the nursing profession -deal with bullying -handle a toxic rockstar -practice self-care -write a proper resume and cover letter -interview well -network - negotiate my salary
@saramfung how do you handle a toxic rockstar? (great phrase)
@saramfung Nursing was worse than working in a kitchen as far as toxicity. Bullying was absolutely the worst, this is actually the main reason I haven’t gone back. And I have to do a refresher and I am not paying 1000’s of $ to be bullied.
@saramfung Excellent points! Most programs focus on the knowledge you need to acquire and not the realities of working in a field. Some institutions are doing a better job at supporting students to employment (last 4pts)
@saramfung Such important life skills that I did not master in nursing school either. Not sure I've mastered them all yet.
@saramfung I forget that management roles are not unionized
@saramfung My alma mater asked me to be on a panel of recent grads once (very long time ago now) that would answer career questions from soon to be grads and I was asked not to discuss salaries 🙃
