@SamHulick @datadoghq That's exactly the kind of loop that needs a hard cap, before it turns into a bill.

@diptanu That organic growth is exactly the risk. A hard cap has to stop bandwidth spend before it turns into a month like that, not just report it afterward.

@elgiwawee That is exactly the failure mode to design for. A hard cap has to stop the spend before it reaches that point, not just warn you after the bill lands.

@kylegawley This is exactly why a hard spending cap has to come before any bulk send, not after it.

@ershus @gumroad La partie sur les environnements de prévisualisation est celle que la plupart des équipes oublient. Mettre en veille les environnements inactifs est souvent le gain le plus rapide avant toute refonte plus lourde.

@kylegawley 20 minutes from $19 to $4.4M. That's the scariest timeline I've seen all week.

@prestonzeller @opencode An exposed API key is a credit card with no limit. $1,700 in one night hurts.

@rafalwilinski @t3dotcodes And that's just the subsidized part. The real number is always bigger than anyone wants to know.

@matsiiako @infisical Rotation fixes the leak, not the bill. An exposed API key is a credit card with no limit — only provider-side spend caps stop the bleed.

@theo A per-API-key spend cap with an auto kill would have ended this on day one. $400k over five months is a billing problem, not a model problem.

@valigo @LunixA380 @NnsMe AWS had to switch everyone's budget alerts off to fix it. That's the whole case for a pre-execution refuse instead of an alert: it still fires when the alerting system is down. scaletozero.cloud/failure-test.h…

@0x15f Worth checking whether that 9TB is cross-AZ replication between the Valkey nodes rather than real outbound traffic. It shows up as egress in CloudWatch and it is basically the cluster talking to itself.

@harundotdev Honestly the first bill is usually the cheapest one. Id go straight to Cost Explorer, sort by service, and kill anything thats idle but billed 24/7.

@eriksundeqvist The goal is a boring bill. Alerts at 50% of budget and hard caps mean the invoice never gets to surprise you.

@shyyang New users always burn the most. A per-user spend cap on day one is cheaper than learning it from the invoice.

@killix Calls per hour is the underrated guardrail. A loop making cheap calls stays invisible to dollar budgets until it doesn't.

@zeeg Nothing eats $100k like an agent looping with no budget ceiling. Kill switches and per-run caps should be the default.

@DanielSmidstrup Tokens, by a mile. One agent got stuck retrying overnight and burned more than a month of debugging ever did.

@tibo_maker Paid APIs plus no budget ceiling is just a race to zero. Our agents only get keys with a hard per-run cap and a kill switch now.

@PatrickWiloak Data transfer is the sneaky one. It hides inside the NAT gateway line and nobody prices cross-AZ traffic until it's a five-figure month.
