This game will end up with both Drake Maye and Bryce Young on the bench. It has gotten so out of reach, with Pats leading 42-6, that it's just a matter of slogging through the last 8 minutes with the backups.

In case you're curious, the worst margin of defeat ever for the Panthers is when they lost 52-9 to the Raiders in 2000, for a 43-point differential. New England now leads the Panthers 42-6 with 14:13 to go in the fourth quarter in Foxborough. 42 unanswered for the Pats. Whew.

Panthers competing to set new lows here, as they fall behind 35-6 in the third quarter. On a 31-yard pass from Maye to Henry, Chau Smith-Wade took a swipe at the ball at the 10 instead of tackling Henry, and that was that. Not one he'll want to see on film.

Panthers now behind 21-6 to Patriots, who score on a 5-yard Henderson run. Brutal stretch for Panthers. Total yardage is practically equal (147-144 for Pats) but CAR special-teams miscues have been killers.

Panthers had a special-teams fumble lost last week by Etienne. This week, in first 10 minutes: Fitzgerald missed XP Fitzgerald KO to end zone (brought out to 35). And, worst of all: 87-yard TD punt return by New England. Pats 7, Panthers 6. Still very early.

Talk about a mistake: The Panthers, punting from NE 42, somehow don't draw a fair catch and then give up an 88-yard TD return by New England's Marcus Jones. Only one Panther even touched him. Horrible misplay by special teams, and New England leads, 7-6.

Panthers go straight down the field for a TD - 7 yards from Young to Tremble for the score. Boos are already starting at Gillette Stadium, as Panthers take a 6-0 lead on first possession of the game after Fitzgerald doinks the extra point.

Panthers wide receiver David Moore gets the ball on a reverse on the first play of the game, gains 12 and then goes down awkwardly. Play stops, and Moore is going to be carted off. Already thin at WR, Panthers will now be even thinner. Lots of Tremayne on the way.
