As a guy who appreciates a good ghost town, I am popping my head in and unable to deny... Twitter, or at least people's limited responses to my tweets (historically) have become downright deserted. I can't even see who the few responses that once-upon-a-time took the effort are.

Some days the not hearing back from people is harder than others. Especially when you really want to talk to them. Social media makes this harder than it used to feel when phones were all we had. Today is one of those hard days. It'll pass.

Peripheral. Look at the word. Count the times the letter "r" appears. Count the times the sequence "ee" or letter "y" appears. Say the word out loud. If you don't hear yourself say two "r"s, but you do hear an "ee" noise... just keep trying. Or in 10 years we'll need a new word.

Had the "So, what are your intentions regarding your remains?" conversation with my cancer-ridden Dad just now. Intensely uncomfortable for both of us, but ultimately went relatively okay. Staring down the barrel of his approaching absence continues to be a weird thing.

More and more lately, I find my eyes drifting over to the map of the Hookland, and my mind idly concocting daytrips and weekenders into the county. There is something really nice about having that delivery zone marked out in the post office of my imagination.

If you need proof of the fallibility and shortsightedness of the fae, I gesture towards the simple fact that we were allowed to make it out of the Bronze Age. Unless the hidden folk have a masochistic tendency, the number of "Smiths" in the world seems to indicate a grave error.

Some days, in heavy isolation, I have to remind myself that, despite my reaction to people here (oh, how I hate you all), I actually fucking LOVE you people. Even the annoying, painfully dumb people. People are rad. The "person show" here sucks, but... only show on right now.
