In the year 326, St. Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine, went to Jerusalem searching for the holy places of Christ’s Passion🇻🇦 On Calvary the pagans had raised a temple to hide the site. When it was torn down and the ground opened, three crosses were found, and no one could tell which one had borne the Lord. Tradition holds that St. Macarius, Bishop of Jerusalem, had a dying woman brought to the spot. One by one the three woods were laid upon her. At the touch of the third cross she was instantly restored to health. That was how the Church recognized the True Cross of Jesus. Constantine then built the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre over Golgotha and the empty tomb. On 13 September 335 the church was dedicated. The next day, 14 September, the relic was solemnly lifted up so the faithful could see and venerate it. That “raising up” is the origin of today’s Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The Cross that had been an instrument of shame became the Tree of Life. What men meant for death, God made the sign of victory. We adore You, O Christ, and we bless You, because by Your holy Cross You have redeemed the world. Amen! 🙏

@JamesNeish @AsiaOne_News Best wishes James! Brenda says “Well done J!”

When You See the White Smoke…🇻🇦💨 Don’t think of prestige. Don’t rush to post, to speculate, or to celebrate power. Kneel. And pray. Because the man who will soon step out onto the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica is not claiming a throne—but embracing a cross. He is not a victor, but a sacrificial lamb chosen to lead a weary world. At that very moment, he may be in the small, hidden “Chapel of Tears” beside the Sistine Chapel—weeping. Not in triumph, but in awe and fear, asking God: “Why me?” He will recount his frailties. He will list every reason why he feels unworthy. But God will not need strength—He will give mercy. This man will carry the full weight of Peter’s office. He will grow tired. He will suffer silently. He will grow old—perhaps too soon. He will not retire in comfort. He will die in service. His burden will be unseen by many, but his soul will feel it every day. When you see the white smoke... pray for him. He is not stepping into glory—he is walking into sacrifice.

In sadness, but in the sure hope of the Resurrection, we post: Rest in peace, Holy Father; Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you return home to the Father. vaticannews.va/en/pope/news/2…

For Christians, Easter is the most sacred time of the year. It’s a time to come together, with family, friends, and church communities, and remember Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice. I’d like to wish everyone celebrating today a blessed Easter.

Wishing all Christians a blessed Good Friday. This sacred time is a powerful reminder of love, sacrifice and hope—and a chance to honour the Christian community who help make our city stronger, kinder and more generous every day.

With many thanks to the staff and inmates and His Majesty’s Prison Windmill Hill for the 3 nesting boxes for Gibraltar’s Swifts, now in place at the Convent and ready for occupation.

Every day, countless animals are tormented and killed for the sake of "sport." The government has the power to stop this cruelty—but they won’t unless we demand it. Share if you’re outraged and want a complete ban on hunting now!

Thinking of attending a Boxing Day hunt meet? This is what ‘trail hunts’ get up to. Please RT if it is one thing you do today and get these faces everywhere. Cowards.

Let us pray so that at Christmas there may be a ceasefire on all war fronts, in Ukraine, in the Holy Land, throughout the Middle East and the entire world. May weapons be silenced and Christmas carols resound!

Wonderful Christmas Carol concert last night at St Theresa’s Church #Gibraltar with choirs from Governor’s Meadow, Loreto Convent and St Bernard’s schools. Thank you @setrocJoe for organising these for 20 years! Great to see carols and villancicos, true to our bilingual culture

Since the badger cull started in England in 2013, over 230,000 badgers have lost their lives. Share if you believe it’s time to put an end to the cull now!

I won’t forget this little boy and those like him… What about you @Keir_Starmer and @DavidLammy?

The assisted suicide bill has been published today. Archbishop John said this is a physical, spiritual & moral threat. Archbishop John said, as followers of the Lord Jesus, "if we don’t stand up and value the dignity of human life, who will?" Please act and oppose this bill

RT if you want a proper ban on fox hunting!

Let us #PrayTogether for peace, especially in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, and Lebanon, so that the escalation may cease. May respect for human life, which is sacred, be prioritized!

Let us continue to pray for people suffering due to war: martyred Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, martyred Ukraine, Sudan, Myanmar, and all others. May we invoke for all the gift of peace.

This. THIS! #roddenberry #startrek 👏👏👏
