Very important piece on Russia/Ukraine peace talks in early 2022. What I take from it is that, late into those talks, Russia continued to make new & unacceptable demands that would have turned Ukraine into a weak & undefensible vassal state. foreignaffairs.com/ukraine/talks-…

Ukraine “did not consult with Washington until after the communiqué was issued, even though the treaty it described would have created new legal commitments for the United States—including an obligation to go to war with Russia if it invaded Ukraine again” foreignaffairs.com/ukraine/talks-…
@shashj Nothing really new - and yeah, given all the ridiculous “demands” issued by the Kremlin (as well as many other things like Russian preparations for an offensive in Donbas in April), some still end up being shameless enough to lay the blame on Ukraine.
@shashj Funny that's your take, because it feels like Ukraine was ready to sign despite those unacceptable demands (just in the same way Russia was signing, despite ukranian demands they might have found unreasonable). No mention whatsoever about western soft pressure?
@shashj The West/UKR need to revisit this issue, immediately. As Alex of History Legends points out in today's #DeepDive, there is virtually no chance the Ukraine army can hold what it's got, much less *ever* recapture territory. Make a deal now. youtube.com/watch?v=A1fkwB…
@shashj @DAlperovitch Russia never negotiated in good faith & would have simply set Ukraine up to get invaded again.
