We should be funding more teams and fewer PIs, projects, or research programs. Members of a team want to work together, they've spent time together, they know each other's strengths. Teams find the best project for them and each other. They create it together, and they find extensions from it. They are accountable for sharing the resources equitably. They can do more, more efficiently. If they fail with one project, they will move on to the next, learning along the way. PIs, Projects, or programs build uncommitted or insincere teams, often with exploited members. They can lead to resource hoarding and information waste. They create equity and competition. They center a 'principal investigator'. They are ephemeral and their members treat each other as such. #HigherEd #AcademicChatter #Transdisciplinary #WednesdayRant
@shoshanahjacobs +1 for more teams/teamwork esp in academia but imo competition (both intra/inter-team) is beneficial (and to an extent necessary) for excellence
