Culinary Fundamentals classes at SMFHS practiced their culinary skills (Outcome 3.5 Food Preparation) in 3 rounds of a "Chopped" culinary competition. Each round had different mandatory ingredients and time constraints. Congratulations to the winners from each class!

Culinary Fundamentals "Chopped" competition round 1. Students were told they must use flour tortillas and either cream cheese or shredded cheddar for the appetizer recipe round. Secret ingredient on lab day was tomatoes. 30 minutes on the clock. Here are the results!
Textiles and Interior Design students are pictured here with their travel pillows. The first sewing project for most of them! The project included a cool "blanket stitch" finished edge.

Global Foods class prepared Apple Enchiladas. They prepared the homemade apple filling by coring, peeling, and slicing the apples then cooking the filling prior to assembling the enchiladas and baking them with a brown sugar glaze.
Nutrition and Wellness students learned how to make a healthy vegetarian lunch today....whole wheat pita pockets with chickpea filling, spinach, tomato, and pepper jack cheese. With a side of sliced apples.
After learning the @MyPlate requirements in Principles of Foods class, students were asked to prepare dinner at home using the guidelines. Here's an example of one student's dinner - ground turkey, salad, whole grain rice, cantaloupe, and a glass of milk.
Students create egg babies as part of the Human Growth and Development Class at SMFHS. This is a small taste of the responsibility of parenting. They also learn the costs associated with raising children, parenting styles, and birth defects.
