@iAmNickWize Yelich’s foot is not on the bag here. If he stretches, he’s out. Also, that was bad footwork on Ben. His right foot needs to be on the bag for a proper stretch so he can extend his arms & upper body. He’s also too vertical & he needed more forward bend This was poor fundamentals
@Darren12006774 @xOneTrackMind @linares_ca_93 The mind is fooled in thinking you’ll get there faster, but you’re breaking your stride and lunging to a fall. So many players do it, but it never works. When a runner dives head first at 2nd, 3rd, or home it’s done to avoid the tag and to give as little of the body to tag out.
@halupkisultan @GuardsBurner_ Also, the Brewers are really good at staying alive during at-bats by fouling off pitches. They know that making contact by fouling off pitches gives them another chance to see another one. Paul O’Neil with the Yankees was really good at this. This frustrates a pitcher so much
@halupkisultan @GuardsBurner_ It’s losing baseball. Sometimes you’ll win a lot of games when some players hit HRs, but it’s not conducive to beating good pitching Brewers take a lot of pitches, work the counts, take walks, wear down starting pitching. This can’t be done when you’re trying to hit HRs every AB
@Darren12006774 @xOneTrackMind @linares_ca_93 When you see the replay in slow motion, you can see it was literally a millisecond of a difference to being an out. I played 2nd base in high school and you’re taught that early on. It’s a basic fundamental because those plays at 2nd are always close with 2 outs.
@dezcaughtit99 @Rmikes23 I don’t want to jump ahead, but if there’s baseball next season, this team will win it again. They’re loaded—young, and hungry. The Dodgers are old, tired, & complacent. The American League is not up to par with NL teams. The Brewers remind me of the mid 1990’s Yankee teams.
@xOneTrackMind @linares_ca_93 Also, he should’ve known it was going to be a very close play due to Yelich running on contact with two outs. Situational awareness is a key thing in baseball and I’m not sure Tampa has mastered it during this series. They’ve made many mistakes in the first 3 games.
@xOneTrackMind @linares_ca_93 This was the play of the game because if they get the out, it’s still a ball game. You’re right, if he gets his right foot on the bag, he can fully extend and stretch his body to the ball. He was out of position. Obviously, he didn’t know the fundamental, which cost him.
@Elprez_epm @rcandy24 The 1990’s Yankees were like this team. O’Neil, Jeter, Williams were gamers. The only player who hit 30+ HR’s during their dynasty was Bernie back in 2000 (he hit 30 HRs). The team relied on contact hitting, hit &runs, stolen bases, timely hitting. Small ball wins big games.
@xOneTrackMind @linares_ca_93 There were two outs and that would’ve been the final out. You’re right, he had to stretch out to get the ball because it was a millisecond of a difference.
@halupkisultan @GuardsBurner_ When you have teams with the mentality of trying to pull everything & hit HR’s every single at bat, you fall victim to weak pop ups or strike outs. You can’t create a rally that way, nor can you manufacture runs. Brewers steal bases and do hit & runs to put pressure on a defense
@halupkisultan @GuardsBurner_ I have to agree. The Brewers are excellent contact hitters. They are elite in many areas. • Pitching • Defense • Clutch hitting • Base running • Relief pitching • On base percentage • Excellent contact hitting The key thing is that they don’t make any mistakes.
@WxShaw I have to agree. The Brewers have no weaknesses at all. They are elite in many areas. • Pitching • Defense • Clutch hitting • Base running • Relief pitching • On base percentage • Excellent contact hitting The key thing is that they don’t make any mistakes.
This hurts every time I watch it.
@mark_giangreco @sabamaliktmhg This is a good story, Mark. Congratulations on quitting back then.
@jac2623 This kind of baseball was played in the 1970's & 1980's. Cardinals of the 1980's perfected it & in the 1990's the NY Yankees used 'small ball' to win 4 World Series titles. Those Yankees only had one player who hit over 30 HRs in a season (B. Williams hit exactly 30 HRs in 2000).
@scdhammer68 @MLBONFOX I think that error by the first baseman (allowed a key run) was crucial. Also, the same 1st baseman dropped a pop foul by the netting that would have gotten them out of the inning with no damage done. Contreras later got a hit to drive in a big run.
@BillcinflaRuss @LangmanVince @grok When I grew up on the game, I always thought if the hitter broke his wrist position, that would constitute a swing. Later, it was the bat breaking the plane past home plate.
@moviefan_2000 @Zigmanfreud Yes, the wild pitch was the big play of that inning. Baseball is a game of momentum and the Mets had it when Knight hit that lazy single to center that scored Carter. When the wild pitch occurred, the Mets were not going to lose. Billy Buck was the nickname Cubs fans gave him.
The great, Sandy Koufax. My all-time favorite ball player.
Name an athlete who spent his whole career with one team, and you can't even picture him in another jersey. Any sport, any era.
