The tragedy of being born in a third-world country is that you are expected to compete globally while living in an environment that makes the most basic things unnecessarily difficult.

I still cannot believe humans were gifted a planet full of trees, fruit, water, animals and sunshine and then they invented debt, capitalism and war.

Building a country requires a solid foundation. So we can't just move on when we are setting the country on fire...

If the President can direct a release, then this was never a legal case. Bail is the law, not a presidential favour.

Justice Minister Norbert Mao says there are “quiet discussions” underway to have Dr Kizza Besigye and Erias Lukwago released from prison on the president's directive. #NBSUpdates

At any Ugandan university, law students are routinely confronted with this examination question: "Discuss the view that the silence, inaction, or complicity of lawyers and judges between 1971 and 1979 played a fundamental role in sustaining President Idi Amin's atrocious regime for eight years." Isn't it deeply unsettling that in a few years, a nearly identical question may well be asked about the current generation of judicial officers, lawyers and other professionals? 🤔 To see that Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hon. Lukwago have made impassioned pleas for bail on medical grounds for several months, and yet remain trapped in jail as their health deteriorates is beyond comprehension!

The worst part about being from a third-world country is watching your potential get consumed by problems that should not exist in the first place.

MAKERERE UNIVERSITY REMAINS NO.1 IN THE REGION The Rankings have spoken!!

After a weekend of severe power blackouts that have not been sufficiently explained, UEDCL, the company that supplies electricity in Uganda has announced its next ambitious target - a drive to collect 30,000 units of blood as part of “Customer Experience Month”. Someone said, “If they explain Uganda to you and you understand it, then you have not understood it…”

@YusufJKiruuluta @GodwinTOKO Yeah, I'd call it that😂

@GodwinTOKO What's painful is that after nearly 40 years under one president, Ugandans are still paying for decisions they had little say in.

🚨🚨DEAN OF THIEVES 🚨🚨 We the traders, boda riders, youth and ordinary Ugandans have suffered enough. We are not refusing to pay tax. We are refusing to be over taxed and scammed by a system designed to make us poor. This is how URA over taxes us; 1. Six Taxes on One Item. This is a Scam. You import one phone or one bale of clothes. URA charges you; - Import Duty 25% - Excise Duty - VAT 18% - Withholding Tax 6% - Infrastructure Levy 1.5% - Environmental Levy 30% One item, six taxes stacked on top of each other. By the time you reach Kikuubo, the price has tripled. Who can afford that? This is not taxation, this is extortion. 2. PAYE 40% - Highest in East Africa. In Rwanda PAYE is 30%, Tanzania 30%, Kenya 30%. In Uganda it's 40%. A worker who earns 1M takes home only 600k. Government takes 400k before you even buy food which also has 18% VAT. Where is our take home? 🏠 3. Fuel Excise Raised Every Year. Fuel excise from 1,350/= to 1,550/= to now 1,750/=per litre. Every time fuel goes up, everything goes up taxi fare, food, cement, soap. Yet URA says they are widening tax base. 4. Double Taxation on Small Businesses. A small shop owner in Kampala pays: Trading license to KCCA, Income tax to URA, VAT 18% plus daily EFRIS fines of 2M, 6M for small mistakes. Many shops closed in 2024-2025 because of EFRIS enforcement without education. 5. EFRIS and Instant Fines are Digital Scam. URA introduced EFRIS but did not train traders. Now a mistake of not issuing a receipt is 2M fine, then 6M. How can a woman selling tomatoes afford 6M? This is not tax collection rather this is punishment of the poor. 6. 11% Tax to GDP yet Harassing the Same 1 Million People. URA collects only 11% of GDP, the lowest in EAC because they fear to tax the rich and the corrupt who steal billions. So they squeeze the same 1 million compliant Ugandans, boda riders, market women and small shops over and over. What we ask not request because we are tax payers; 1. Reduce PAYE from 40% to 30% like our neighbors. 2. Reduce VAT from 18% to 10% like Kenya. 3. Stop stacking 6 taxes on one imported item and harmonize to one single tax. 4. Stop EFRIS fines until every trader is trained free of charge. 5. Publish online how every shilling is used. URA @URAuganda , you are not collecting tax. You are killing businesses. You are making Uganda the most expensive country to live in East Africa. If you tax us to death, who will pay tax tomorrow? We Pay Tax, We Deserve Respect, Not Scam. #TaxJusticeUg #EndOverTaxation

@nzobindo @uMambulazi @hoe_ace Came to say exactly this. Sooo Luganda Sorry for your loss.

The Uganda central bank rate is 12%, the dollar is at over 4100, they banned charcoal etc but we are talking about pastors and their fake miracles. What a joke of people we are

capitalism’s greatest trick was convincing the working class to dream of being rich instead of questioning why they’re poor.

Your ability to survive a broken system is admirable. The fact that you had to survive it isn’t.

They don’t need your money—they print it. They tax you to keep you poor.

A friend recently asked me why I take my cars to Bukoto for washing, yet I stay in Bulenga and attend work from Mulago, Wandegeya, Buloba and Kasanga. The fuel I use driving to Bukoto alone could probably cover the cost of washing the cars elsewhere. 😂 But my answer is simple: I’m supporting a friend. I can never feel bad about spending a little more to support a friend’s business. Even if I’m charged a little higher, seeing a friend grow and win is a win for me too. Sometimes, supporting your friends means choosing them even when cheaper or more convenient options are available. Support your friends. Their success is a win for you, too. 💪

The moment you start making fun of people’s homes or backgrounds, I distance myself. That kind of energy isn’t for me.
