bird flu 🧵 what I've heard - wear a mask like with COVID, bird flu is very likely airborne as well as through animal/milk based products - it's a 50% mortality rate for humans, not a joke, there are ppl who have been infected who have died + there are human cases in the US 1/5
- we don't know if this is able to be spread through human to human transmission yet, but it's very clear that humans can be infected by animals and the virus has jumped from birds to farm birds to cattle to people and to cats in the span of the last few months 2/5
- keep your cats inside! + away from bird droppings, there is an extraordinarily high mortality for cats that have been infected - ultra-pasteurized is best for reducing risk through dairy products - handle eggs like raw chicken - cook eggs all the way, no runny yolks 3/5
- this is kind of tongue in cheek but like wearing a mask outside around birds if possible idk how to account for how infectious this is through airborne transmission, how to calculate how much birds exhale and how that travels and disperses through the air 4/5
