These characters were real, powerful, and vulnerable. I saw so much beauty, and it gave me hope for what I can see reflected back to me. #TheWomanKing doesn’t hide from what it was, and it says a lot by simply existing.

And yes, #TheWomanKing does deal with some complex duality around the Dahomey being both enslavers and saviors; but what drew me in was the humanity of the characters and the rich development.

So, I didn’t plan to see #TheWomanKing movie. I have enough real life trauma going on, & I thought I could skip it because let’s face it, in 1820s East Africa we know the probable outcome of the movie, right? so glad I was wrong.
