When your friends or loved ones are hurting or grieving, do not act like Job's friends, applying truths in a ham-fisted or careless way. Things may be true that aren't necessarily helpful to say in certain moments. Platitudes aren't usually that helpful. Listening is often more helpful that making statements, especially when the fires of calamity are raining down on a sufferer's head. "Well, God is sovereign." "The Lord gives and the Lord takes away." While these things are true, they often miss the heart of the ones suffering. Consider instead saying things like this: "I am really hurting for you. I am so sorry for your loss." At other times, you don't need to say anything. Simply show up, be present, give a warm hug, and remind them that you love them. One other thing: People who are suffering often don't know what they need, so asking them how you can help is often more of a burden than a relief. Instead, think of preemptive ways that you can bless them. Pastorally, this is even more true: Don't ask if they want you to come to the hospital room or the graveside; just come. Your job as a shepherd is to meet them there with comfort, prayer, and compassion.

I am convinced that churches ought to conduct their musical worship such that the voices of the people are the primary instrument. I believe this is the most beautiful possible worship and most conducive to the reverent worship of God. I also believe this takes more skill, not less skill, than the average megachurch rock band. We practice three times a months as a church just to learn to sing our psalter and hymnal. It is truly lovely and transcendent.

There is a crisis of masculinity because men have spent their whole life being hectored by loud and obnoxious women with main character syndrome. Masculinity is coming back, but not on women's terms, because women's entitlement is what killed it to begin with. Masculine men are looking for women who know how to surrender and inspire them. They are NOT looking for women with a laundry list of demands and a big attitude. They're looking for FEMININE women - women whose main desire in a relationship isn't control, but being cherished. This is what motivates men, and it's what they will step up and move mountains for. If you want to turn men off of marriage for another generation keep putting Tomi Lahren on television to talk about it. Most guys would rather drive their car into a wall than consider living with someone like her. The epitome of the problem should not be talking about the solution.

How to ID wolves and trouble makers early, 3 - they pander to, cater to, and seek to placate women. This is probably one of the clearest and easiest to notice - their public platform, approach and choice of issues to speak to, modes of speech, sins that matter and more... it's all feminine framed and aimed at pleasing/making women happy or at the least unbothered by realities that displease the feminine mindset, especially the modern egalitarian one. Whether in church or culture, if mama and the girls and her posse ain't happy, well then, no one should can be happy. They will step in to defend bad acting women, loud women, and what not. Sometimes called white knights, they generally present themselves as the hero to women against all those bad villainous other men that the world is filled with, who are the cause of the oppression of all these naturally good, virtuous women who only ever go bad or do bad because some big bad man made them.

I'm making it clear to my kids. When it comes time for them to buy a house. We're going to help them. When it comes time for them to have kids. We're going to help them. I was telling my kids "When you and your husband/wife want to have a date night your mom and I will watch them." One of my kids pipes up: "I'll watch their kids too so they can have a date night." That was a proud dad moment.

I recently discovered Old Neptune, He's Roaring by @Brian_Sauve. I've probably already listened to it a dozen times.
