Tactical USD view change... The change in wording on the balance sheet in today’s FOMC minutes and the drop in yields have me nervous about USD longs. Yes, the language is technical in nature, but the balance sheet is a big deal so I’m not waiting around to find out. ISM wasn’t anything special. I also think the runup trade into NFP is likely to favor a soft number (lower yields next 36 hours) and all eyes are on Tokyo tonight to see what Japanese investors do on the first day of their year. I am also squaring up the EURCHF because the mean reversion trade for new year is not working. So tomorrow’s sidebar will be different with the USDJPY option hedged and the EURCHF gone. GBP, NOK and MXN never looked scared on the NASDAQ dump and so those are good options if you want to be short USD. Also, EURUSD is approaching the gap (1.0870/90) that held after 13DEC23 CPI.

Not investment advice: Nice reversal formation on the failed collapse attempt through WMR there in USDJPY. I think early January will bring new sellers of bonds as the market becomes wary of a 6 cut theme that could be shattered by a few strong data points. Obviously, the data

This week's hard data is confirming the bad soft data and the market is freaking out a bit. Justifiably so. The Fed calvary will lag given they need to fight the last war. NZDCHF tends to sell off hard into recessions and bottom mid-recession.
