We have been conditioned to believe that having a beautiful climate, abundant rainfall, and trillions of cubic meters of fresh water automatically makes you rich. It is a complete delusion. Resources mean absolutely nothing without institutional competence, policy predictability, and a stable currency. Singapore has zero vast freshwater lakes for massive irrigation. They have virtually no arable land, no expansive rural heartlands, and they are forced to import over 90% of their food. By every geographical metric, they should be starving. Yet, they consistently rank as one of the most food secure nations on the face of the earth. Singapore built a politically mature state, a rock solid currency, and world class trade infrastructure. They realized that you don't need to grow the food yourself if your economy is strong enough to buy it from anywhere in the world at a moment's notice. They overcame their geography through pure intellect, strategy, and meritocracy. Nigeria is blessed with millions of hectares of highly fertile arable land, abundant seasonal rainfall, and massive water bodies. By all laws of nature, they should be feeding the entire continent and exporting the surplus to Europe. Instead, millions of their citizens face perpetual food insecurity and skyrocketing inflation on basic food items. The difference isn't the soil. The difference is the politics. When you have a corrupt, volatile political environment, a collapsed currency that destroys purchasing power, and a regulatory system that extorts producers rather than protecting them, you turn a paradise into a basket case. Politics matter. National strategies matter. If a country is politically mature, stable, and respects the laws of economics, no geographical obstacle is too big to overcome. But if your leadership is obsessed with political patronage and entitlement, you can sit on top of Eden and still starve to death.

We are happy to use race as a basis for preferential treatment and discrimination in law. But we still don't like the term "race law" because it makes us feel uncomfortable.

The point of the malign info operations being run in SA is not to present the corrupt as honest - which is no longer possible - it is to present the honest as corrupt, so that ordinary people are no longer able to distinguish between the two.

The absurdity of political discourse in South Africa is illustrated by the fact that there is a court case right now in which parties are arguing that 'nil compensation' is in fact compensation and therefore not the same as 'without compensation'... and therefore constitutional.
