Funny though, the #printf subroutine in #C and #C++ knows how to print the right result for const char* and const uint8_t* strings. For example, const char* s = "hello\xe2\x8c\x98"; uint8_t* d = (uint8_t*)s; printf("%s %s\n", s, d); prints same result. hello⌘ hello⌘

In #C and #C++, Given the C string, const char* s = "hello\x3f\7e\x80"; To get a string where the bytes can accept range 80 to FF (128 to 255), we perform a cast. uint8_t* d = (uint8_t*)s; Or directly by uint8_t* s = (uint8_t*)"hello\x3f\x7e\x80";

In #golang, a string is an immutable sequence of bytes. A byte type is an unsigned integer type. A byte can represent values greater than the ASCII limit, 7F (127) in the range 0 to FF (0 to 255).

char is an integer type in C and C++. It uses 8-bit. Whether it is signed or unsigned is implementation defined. Thus 8-bit values greater than the ASCII 127 limit are not guaranteed to work.

ASCII uses 7-bit to represent its values. ASCII values ranges from 0 to 7F in hex. An 8-bit value representing an unsigned integer ranges from 0 to FF in hex.

size_t is an unsigned integer type in C and C++. Nasty bugs occur when it is used for count down in loops. For example, size_t n = 10; for (--n; n>=0; --n) ; causes an infinite loop since unsigned integers don't hold negative numbers. We can correct that by using a signed type

A string represented by a sequence of 8-bit values encoded as a UTF-8 sequence of Unicode code points, can use two or more bytes to represent a Unicode code point for non-ASCII values. We may wish to find the position each code point starts in the string.

A string is a sequence of n-bit values, where n can be 8, 16, 32. An 8-bit sequence can be used to encode UTF-8 sequences of Unicode code points. A 16-bit, 32-bit sequence can be used to encode UTF-16, UTF-32 sequences of Unicode code points.
