April 11-17 is Black Maternal Health Week! This year's theme is "Our Bodies STILL Belong to Us: Reproductive Justice NOW!" Yesterday, my colleagues and I introduced the Momnibus bill package and a resolution to commemorate Black Maternal Health Week. In the U.S., Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy related issues than white women. The CDC notes that more than 80% of pregnancy related deaths are preventable. The Momnibus legislation will help uplift and protect Black mothers and ensure they are able to access the healthcare they need, when they need it. You can read more about the package at the link below. senatedems.com/chang/2024/04/…
So grateful for the leadership of @SenErikaGeiss who has worked tirelessly with the community and stakeholders on Black maternal health issues for a long time. Thank you Senator Geiss! Proud to be a part of this amazing effort! #momnibus #mileg
@stephanielily A week, month, or day for (almost) everything. When is straight white male day? 🤔
