The older I get, the more critical I’m becoming of ‘the kids are all right’ discourse. How many decades have ‘the kids’ had to be ‘all right’ for? How often have the youth had to make up for the moral failings of leaders? “Kids” only need to protest when the “adults” fail.

It’s less ‘the kids are all right’ and more ‘the adults are uttterly depraved.’ While we should absolutely celebrate the courage of these students, let’s not kid outselves—we failed them. They’re out there making up for our (moral) failings.
